Psychiatric Care for Children and Adolescents in Michigan
Children and adolescents can suffer from a wide variety of emotional disorders and can experience these disorders at different levels of severity. Common disorders seen in children and adolescents include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder (ADD), learning disorders and conduct disorders.
For families with children and adolescents who suffer from mental illness and
psychiatric disorders, specialized treatment, at a well established
mental health hospital with skilled and experienced clinicians
is essential.
As Macomb County’s only inpatient psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents,
Harbor Oaks Hospital is privileged to treat the youngsters in
our community who need psychiatric treatment.
Treatment is led by our Medical Director, Dr. Longs, who is also a child psychiatrist. Dr. Longs holds a deep affinity for children and young people and brings a warm intimacy to his work. An internist is onsite to attend to the medical needs of our young patients.
It’s especially important that the family be involved in any child’s treatment program, so Harbor Oaks staff works closely with family members to facilitate treatment.
Our children and adolescent’s unit has sixteen beds and we treat children and adolescents from ages four to 17. A teacher is on staff to help children and adolescent address their educational needs.
